The Haus of Mahj

What: Mahjong

Who: Jessica Erlich and Dana Bernstein

Where: @thehausofmahj

The Haus of Mahj is a mobile, event-based social club that brings curated mahjong
experiences to the community. Their mission is simple: to build connection through play.
At their table, everyone is invited to participate—whether you’re a seasoned expert or
picking up a tile for the first time. Events are designed to be welcoming, fun, and a
little bit addictive—all while supporting local businesses in our surrounding area.
Founded by Jessica Erlich and Dana Bernstein in June 2025, The Haus of Mahj was
born out of friendship, a shared craving for creativity, and a desire to bring people
together. Jessica and Dana met on the playground just days before their children
started kindergarten, and quickly bonded over a shared love of beach walks, tennis, and
most of all—mahjong.

With former careers in magazine publishing and public relations, they felt a spark of
inspiration to build something of their own. As experienced mahjong players and now certified Oh My Mahjong instructors, Jessica and Dana are proud to be part of Oh My Mahjong Mahji Mentor Program spreading their love of the game to all who want to learn.

Their signature duo teaching method means both founders lead every session—offering
personalized guidance and tons of tips, tricks and encouragement. From private in-
home lessons to buzzworthy pop-up events, they focus on making each game a
memorable experience for every player.

In less than two months, they've taught dozens of new players across Fairfield County
and partnered with community favorites such as Pizza Lyfe, The Blondinit, and The Post
on events. Upcoming pop-ups at The Granola Bar Darien (Aug 6) and New Mom School
(Sept/Oct 2025) are in the works, with many more exciting partnerships on the way.
Let’s play!

The Haus of Mahj offerings include:

  • In-home lessons: MAHJ 101 for first-time players and MAHJ 102 guided play for
those who have taken a few lessons but still need strategy assistance.

  • Private parties: Think birthdays, bridal showers, or girls’ nights in!

  • Pop-up collabs: We bring the tiles to local restaurants, cafes, boutiques, fitness

studios, and more.

(They do the heavy lift bringing all the mahjong materials needed for every lesson and
event: tip sheets, to tiles, racks, NMJL cards and beautiful mats. Guests simply show up
ready to learn and play.)
